Does the Treatment Hurt?

Auto Injury Treatment FL Complete Care AdjustmentNobody likes pain. And for many, the thought of lying on a table and having a doctor perform “spinal manipulation” on them, especially after having been in an automobile accident, is a terrifying prospect, to say the least. It sounds like something straight out of a Frankenstein movie!

All treatments that the physicians at Complete Care perform are based on objective documentation and objective peer-reviewed research. What does that mean? It means that our doctors know what they’re doing and their methods are proven to work.

But Does It Hurt?

If there is inflammation in a joint, it may contribute to sensitivity and tenderness to the touch, but all of our clinicians are trained to detect any apprehension from the patient and they pull back instead of push forward. Causing the patient pain during treatment provides no benefits to healing, and in fact, it could cause the patient to avoid treatment altogether in the future. We want our patients to feel better, not worse.

Chiropractic care is one of the safest and most effective treatments for injuries. You may be afraid of your bones cracking as you’re being adjusted, but that “pop” you may hear is merely gas from the joints being released as the joint is put back into place, like opening a bottle of wine, and is not painful. Truthfully, the adjustment usually brings with it a feeling of relief because the joint can now move the way it’s supposed to. We do not have a “no pain, no gain” mentality, but rather, a “no discomfort, no gain” one. It’s not as catchy, but we’re doctors, not poets!

We recommend that if you feel your pain reaches above a 4 on the 1-10 pain scale, you should let your clinician know immediately so we can reassess your treatment and perhaps come up with an alternative or just pull back a little on the intensity of the treatment until the soft tissue has healed a little more.
